Winter League 2013 - 2014

Winter League

Dates
From Saturday 20th Oct 2012 until the 23rd March 2013 there is a 23 week period for our Winter Golf Season. The Winter League will be played over two 9 holes courses for a maximum of 20 weeks and a minimum of 14 weeks *.

If we do complete the Winter League before the end of March the intention is to run weekly stableford competitions until the start of the summer competitions. Initially these competitions would be over a shorter number of holes with the possibility of extending this to 18 nearer the end of the month.

* If there is exceptionally poor weather over the winter we may need to review the minimum of 14 weeks.

Entry
Entry into the Winter League will be £10 which includes:
1. Winter League Individual Competition including Winter League Cup
2. Winter League Team Competition
3. Winter League Dinner

Members are asked to put the entrance fee into the envelopes provided, write their name clearly on the outside of the envelope and place into the Match & Handicap slot of the cabinet.

Closing Date for entries will be Sunday 6th October 2013. No Extension will be given.

Competition
Each week the Winter League will be played over two 9 hole courses as directed by the Match & Handicap committee although this will be dependant on the number of playable holes on the course.
Every fourball will be assigned a Group i.e. Group A or Group B and each Group will have their own start sheet. Group A will play course A the first week, course B the second week and then back to course B for week three and so on. Group B will play course B the first week, course A the second week and then back to course B for week three and so on.

Match & Handicap will try and ensure everyone plays the same number of rounds over each course.

In the event of holes being closed members must be prepared for delays as Match & Handicap tries their best to enable every member to complete their round.

Weekly prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in two handicap sections on both courses. The handicap sections will be up to 14 and 14 to 28.

Sunday Competition
The Sunday Sweep will continue through-out the winter months and will be played over the number of playable holes on the course as directed by the Golf Centre.

Midweek Competition
The Wednesday Competition will continue through-out the Winter as a Midweek Sweep which can be played any day during the week. It will be held for over the number of playable holes on the course, that everyone plays during the week as directed by the Golf Centre.

Team Competition
A team will be made up of 4 players with 3 scores counting towards the Winter League

Saturday Tee Times
A start sheet will be in operation for each course and members are not advised to switch between start sheets.

Tee Times will be allocated based on the current summer start sheet with Group 1 being assigned to Group A and Group 2 being assigned to Group B and so on. Once the start sheets are produced any problems with tee times should be submitted in writing to Keith Hanna before the start of the Winter League.

The Match & Handicap Committee would like to remind everyone they are still required to cancel their Saturday tee time before 5:30pm on the Friday night.

Members who are not competing in the Winter League will not be allocated a tee time.

Handicaps
Handicaps will be reduce by 4/9 rather than 1/2 i.e. 10 * 4/9 = 4; 18 * 4/9 = 8

Overall Scoring Winter League Cup
2/3 of the competitions played will count to your final score.

Team Competition: The best 3 scores for each team will count towards the team’s weekly total. With 2/3 of the team’s weekly totals counting towards the team’s final score.

If all 20 weeks are played the total number of competitions counting towards the final score will be 13 weeks. If a competition is cancelled or not completed then the number of counting weeks will be reduced accordingly.

A competition will not count towards the overall total if 25% of the members due to play are unable to complete their round.

Highest Scoring Individual and Team: The total of every week will count to your final score

Delayed Starts / Hole Closures
Match & Handicap committee will make a decision on how the competition will be played with the emphasis on enabling everyone to complete their round with the minimal amount of delay to start times. If the Winter League competition is ‘cancelled’ but course is playable the club will hold a sweep competition.

Courses
The plan is to play variations of 9 holes courses
  1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Course 1A 4 5 6 15 12 13 14 17 18
Course 1B 1 2 3 7 8 9 10 11 16
Course 2A 1 2 3 4 5 15 16 17 18
Course 2B 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14
The Centre would prefer members to carry their bag during the Winter League but recognise this is not always possible so they would encourage members to keep trolleys off the fairway and use the paths.
